Q: I powered up the unit, but the internal LED is on, and nothing else is happening—no sidetone or keying. What could be wrong?
A: The unit's functions remain inactive until it successfully connects to either the Flex radio or the MORCONI Server.
Verify that the configuration matches your network settings.
Double-check the IP address and TCP port of the radio or server to ensure they are correctly set.
Ensure the network connection is stable and the required ports are accessible.
Q: I have a MORCONI for Flex unit, and I can't connect to the radio. What should I do?
A: Start by checking the network configuration of both the radio and the MORCONI. Ensure that port 4992—the FlexRadio API port—is reachable from the network where your MORCONI is located.
From a computer on the same network as the MORCONI, open a telnet connection to the radio's IP address (or the router's IP address if connecting remotely) and target port 4992 (or any other port you've configured for NAT).
If the connection is successful, you should see a response similar to the screenshot on the right.
If you do not receive a response, this indicates an issue with your network configuration.
The radio is not reachable with the current parameters, check your:
-
Router and firewall settings.
-
NAT rules (if applicable).
-
IP address and port configurations.

Q: The MORCONI powers up, but there is no virtual serial port in Device Manager. I also don’t hear any sound from the computer when I connect the MORCONI. What could be the issue?
A: This is likely due to your USB cable. It’s possible that you are using a power-only USB cable (one that does not support data transfer).
-
Replace the cable with a data-capable USB cable and reconnect the MORCONI to your computer.
-
Ensure the USB port you’re using is functional and supports data transfer

Q: Can I use a URL (i.e. my8600.mynetwork.com) instead of the IP address to point to the flex radio or the MORCONI server?
A: Yes, starting with released firmware 1.7 (Feb 2025) MORCONI has that functionality.
Q: Can I use a MORCONI over a WiFi network?
A: MORCONI doesn't have an embedded WiFi card, but external cards and bridges can be used for that purpose.
The set-up shown on the right is from Birton, N6UG.
Q: What are the steps to interface MORCONI to N1MM+ or any other logging program?
A: MORCONI can be directly interfaced to a logging or contesting program that can send CW over the serial line controlling the RTS or the DTR line. To configure the system:
Step 1: Connect MORCONI to your computer using the USB port, check in device manager the virtual serial port number associated with MORCONI.

Step 2: Enable the RTS or DTR control line in the configuration file adding the following line:
PCKeyer: 2 ; Computer keying options 0=No computer, 1=RTS, 2=DTR
Step 3: Configure your logging program accordingly. The following example is for N1MM+

At present time, this feature has been tested with the following application (Thanks to John, G4IRN and Fred, K9SO)
