This quick start guide applies to the units assembled, programmed, tested, and shipped by me
Identify Your System:
-
The preassembled units can be shipped in different colors, depending on the filament availability.
-
Typically, color can be black or blue. If you want a specific color, feel free to ask.
-
The MORCONI FLEX and ALLRIGS Client have the speed potentiometer on top of the box.
Your MORCONI has been shipped with the latest firmware release available; there is no need to update it.
After booting up, MORCONI Clients send a CW message which includes the firmware version and a status message.
The format is CFXXX/Y/Z or CGXXX/Y/Z where:
CF = Client Flex, CG = Client ALLRIGS
XXX = Firmware version number
Y = 0 to 9 corresponding to the configuration in use
Z = R or L corresponding to the standard remote functionality or the LOCAL standalone keyer functionality.
Connections for the MORCONI ALLRIGS Client and MORCONI FLEX:
-
The jack on the right is a 3.5mm stereo jack for connecting your key, bug, keyer, or paddle.
-
The jack on the left is a 3.5mm stereo jack for outputting the sidetone. Connect the amplified speaker or the computer audio board input here.
Connections for the MORCONI ALLRIGS Server:
-
The jack on the right is a 3.5mm mono jack for connecting your radio key input. Use the straight key input on the radio if there are separate inputs for straight and paddle, or set the input for a straight key if there is only one configurable input.
-
The jack on the left is a 3.5mm mono jack for connecting your radio PTT input (optional).
Both lines pass through an optocoupler board to isolate the microprocessor output pins from the radio.
First Set-Up:
The MicroSD card located at the back of the box contains the configuration file. Check the configuration to ensure it matches your network and requirements. For the Clients (both ALLRIGS and FLEX), verify that the ServerIP: parameter matches the IP of your remote router or radio.
The clients are pre-configured to obtain an IP address via DHCP, so no manual configuration should be necessary at this stage. For the Server, ensure that the Network parameters (IP/Netmask/Gateway) are correctly configured.
Do not remove or insert the MicroSD card while the MORCONI is powered on, as this may corrupt the configuration file. Teensy is an electrostatic-sensitive device. Keep precautions if disassembling the unit.
Network Requirements:
***
In remote mode, which is the standard mode, MORCONI needs to be connected to a network to successfully complete the boot process
***
If using the MORCONI over the Internet, the remote router must be configured so that the FlexRadio API port (4992 by default) or the MORCONI Server port (57373 by default) is accessible from outside. You need to create a NAT rule on your router for this purpose. Instructions for creating a NAT rule depend on your router model and are beyond the scope of this document.
If configured correctly, you should be able to TELNET to port 4992 or 57373 on your remote router and receive a prompt from the FlexRadio or MORCONI Server.
Power up the MORCONI box, and if everything is functioning correctly, the internal LED will turn off after a few seconds.
The client side will send a “C” over the sidetone, and you can begin enjoying remote CW.
